Dr. Sanjay Garg

Dr. Sanjay Garg is a renowned Senior Consultant Psychiatrist with extensive experience m mental health and behavioural disorders. He is currently working as the Senior Psychiatrist at Fortis Hospitals in Anandapur, Kolkata. He also visits several other clinics in Kolkata, where he can be consulted on specified days by prior appointment. Dr Garg was working as Consultant Psychiatrist in Glasgow, Scotland, before returning to India in 2011. He continues to be an Honorary Consultant for NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, UK.

After completing his under-graduation at Calcutta Medical College, Dr. Garg trained in psychiatry at the prestigious Scottish Psychiatry Training Scheme and received the title of Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych). He further specialised in Learning Disability Psychiatry, obtaining a CCT upon successful completion.

Dr. Garg has contributed significantly in research to ascertain the epidemiology of psychiatric disorders in the learning disability population. He has an avid interest in teaching, and served as Examiner and Lecturer at the University of Glasgow. He has participated as a faculty member at local and national conferences in India, besides being a curriculum developer for paramedical staff. He is a peer reviewer for several psychiatric journals.

Dr. Garg has played an active role on a number of management committees to develop policies and guidance for colleagues. He provides regular expert views, on local and national television channels, newspapers and magazines.

Dr. Sanjay Garg's expertise lies in providing “lifetime psychiatry” catering to the mental health needs of all age groups – children, adults and the elderly. This includes management of disorders such as autism, ADHD, and school refusal in children and specially-abled people. Dr. Garg is an expert in dementia and its associated behavioural and psychological disorders. He has been regularly providing care to people with depression, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, etc. He is trained to deal with sleep disorders, chronic pain management, sexual disorders and socialisation disorders such as Non Epileptic Attack Disorder (NEAD).

Dr. Garg is a Life Fellow and Executive Committee member of the Indian Psychiatric Society West Bengal State Branch, Indian Association of Private Psychiatry West Bengal State Branch, and Indian Medical Association North West Chapter.
